How ReFraze Was Born

In 2006, Ann Fowler had a creative idea for a Christmas party with her book club friends. She decided to hide ornaments around the house, much like an Easter egg hunt, and handed out strips of paper with popular Christmas songs and sayings that had been reworded. The challenge? To see who could decipher the rephrase first! (For example, "Quiet Evening" would be the song Silent Night.)

As the weeks went by, Ann’s friends started calling, asking to borrow the strips of paper for their own family gatherings—they wanted to play the game at their parties, too! She soon realized this could be more than just a holiday tradition; it had the potential to become a nationally known game. At first, I was skeptical, but eventually, I came around to the idea—and just like that, ReFraze was born!

Following that:

The game came out in 2007 with 14 original categories and was picked that year by a large distributer and licensed in 2008 to Talicor Inc. for four years with a four-year extension; Talicor renewed the four-year extension. After the license ran out, there was a new president of Talicor, and a verbal agreement was made to carry on with sales. The company’s sales suffered due to the 2020 pandemic, and they never recovered.

In 2024, I had three pallets (over 3800 games) sent to me. After selling the game myself and developing different versions, people became more interested and requested additional categories. I soon realized the potential of the game and began making alterations and additions which included first, the development of a board game with expansion packs, followed by the development of an app.
